Shakespeare Campaign

Problem Statement:

Create a cohesive campaign for Shakespeare’s plays. The posters must be modern interpretations. Must symbolically represent each play but work in a system.

Specifications:

Must include title, date, director. May include additional information.

16”x20”

Design Choice:

Using Photoshop I created a double exposed image. I took symbols and themes from the plays and integrated them together to tell the story on the poster.

Macbeth:

The fire represents part of the prophecy that was foretold by the three witches. The three daggers represent the witches, as well as the image that Macbeth sees while giving his famous soliloquy. The daggers are red to represent the blood seen on them.

Romeo and Juliet:

The rose and the bloody hands capture the dichotomy of the story. The image captures the love and violence that is shown throughout the entire story. The typography of the title represents the conflict and “being split up” theme as well.

Hamlet:

The skull represents the mystery of death and uncertainty that Hamlet is constantly battling with. The liquid represents the poison that is poured into the Kings ear in the beginning of the play. The ear is another important symbol in the play, as it represents the difficulty of attaining knowledge and the slipperiness of language.

A Midsummer Night's Dream:

The fairy wings represent the main character, who is a fairy, and his journey to control the fate of lovers. The multiple layers of wings represent the complexity of love and the people who experience it.
