Bioshock Playing Cards

Problem Statement:

Create a deck of cards. All cards must fit into a system.

Specifications:

Regular poker sized cards. Fifty-two fronts and one back.

Design Choice:

My inspiration was the video game Bioshock. The game takes place in an underwater city called Rapture. It is in modern time but the city has been “mostly” abandoned since the 1950’s, so the aesthetics are still of the 1950’s, but run-down and rusty. For the King’s, I used the image of the “Big Daddy”, whose sole duty is to protect the “Little Sisters”, which were the inspiration for the Queen. “Splicers” run around the city causing chaos which is why I chose them for the Jacks. The Joker is influenced by a clown that is on a vending machine seen multiple times in the game.  I chose a “cameo” style illustration to capture that classic and elegant charm that the 1950’s was known for. The circular and spiky motif is familiar to anyone who has played the game and is known as a “hidey-hole”. The texture on the cards is to really drive home the idea of the dilapidation the city has experienced. The color on the Joker’s texture is a mixture of the beige and green, as he does not belong to any suite in particular.
